What is AquaRockBag?

A Flexible Alternative for Erosion and Scour Protection

AquaRockBag uses stone contained within a high-strength net to create a flexible erosion and scour protection system.

The system keeps stone confined while adapting to surrounding ground conditions. AquaRockBag can be used for permanent installations, temporary protection and emergency response.

Depending on the application, systems are available using Virgin HDPE or biodegradable coir materials.

Why AquaRockBag?

Flexible Protection

Designed to adapt to changing site and environmental conditions.

Built for Demanding Conditions

Options are available for applications ranging from inland waterways to aggressive shoreline and offshore environments.

Efficient Deployment

Streamlined filling and placement can help reduce on-site labour and installation time.

Supports Natural Processes

Designed to integrate with the surrounding environment, supporting natural sediment accumulation and vegetation establishment over time.

Multiple Material Options

Choose from durable HDPE systems or Bio-AquaRockBag® for sensitive applications.

Multiple Sizes

Available from 1 tonne through 14 tonne configurations depending on project requirements.

Applications

One System. A Wide Range of Applications.

AquaRockBag® can be used across a range of erosion control, shoreline and water infrastructure applications, including:

Shoreline stabilization

Riverbank reinforcement

Bridge and culvert scour protection

Flood and emergency protection

Coastal protection

Harbour infrastructure

Temporary working platforms

Marine anchoring

Offshore infrastructure

Bio AquaRockBag

Need a Biodegradable Option?

Bio-AquaRockBag is made from renewable coir fibre and natural stone, providing a nature-based option for applications where long-term synthetic materials may not be preferred.

It can integrate into the surrounding ecosystem as vegetation and sediment establish around the installation.

Proven in Real Projects

Elora Gorge Low Level Bridge Rehabilitation | Ontario, Canada

At the Elora Gorge Conservation Area, a low level bridge required rehabilitation above and below the waterline, including stabilization of an eroded riverbed and scour pools upstream of the bridge.

Traditional rock armour was determined to be unsuitable for the site conditions, which included a 100-year design storm with velocities greater than 5 m/s. AquaRockBag was selected as a flexible, site-fit armouring solution.

2T AquaRockBags were installed to better conform to the scour undulations and remain submerged below the water level. The bags were deployed by crane, guided into place by divers, and stacked as required to fill the scour pools.

The system was successfully deployed to stabilize the eroded riverbed scour pool. During the same project, surplus AquaRockBags were also quickly deployed to temporarily armour two areas of the site during an intense rain event, demonstrating the system’s adaptability for both permanent and temporary protection.
